Suzanne Miller, Joan Sanders
The Wilson-Hartwig Scholarship is endowed by Red and Pauline Wilson’s daughters, Suzanne Miller and Joan Sanders. This scholarship honors Orlan “Red” and Pauline Wilson and their deceased daughter Paula Hartwig. Red and Pauline were lifetime residents of Butler County, Kansas; Red from Potwin and Pauline from El Dorado. Pauline is a 1940 graduate of El Dorado Junior College. Due to Pauline’s ties to the college, Paula attended Butler and graduated in 1987 with her RN. Paula furthered her education and received her BSN from St. Mary’s of the Plains. Paula worked for the VA Hospital in Wichita, Kansas at the time of her death in 2007. Red and Pauline were married on December 31, 1946 after Red served his country during WWII in the Navy. Both Pauline and Red were members of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as officers. Red was also a Mason. Pauline worked as a loan officer for Eureka Federal Savings and Loan while Red was in the oil business. Together Red and Pauline owned and operated Wilson Drilling Company. In 1980 they retired to Beaver Lake in Arkansas. Both Pauline and Red were football enthusiasts, particularly Red. He enjoyed the El Dorado Wildcats, Butler Grizzlies and the Arkansas Razorbacks.
