Ruth Gray
Ruth Gray, was a longtime Butler Community College donor. She believed in the value of an education. She attended business college in Kansas City prior to marrying Dr. Orville Gray. Dr. Gray was a dentist in El Dorado for many years. Orville and Ruth were members and supporters of the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado, Butler Community College, and the El Dorado Community Concert Association.
The Orville and Ruth Gray and Brenda Richardson Gray Nursing Scholarship was established in 2011 Ruth Gray. Ruth was a volunteer “Pink Lady” at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital for many years. Her wishes were to assist fourth semester Butler nursing students with the many additional costs that can be a burden on students. These costs include the NCLEX exam fee, licensing fee, and required background check. This scholarship pays tribute to Ruth’s husband Dr. Orville Gray and her daughter Brenda Richardson Gray. Orville was a dentist in El Dorado, Kansas for many years. Brenda was a registered nurse at Wesley Medical Center for 29 year. Brenda passed away in 2011.
Ruth established the Gray Family Music Scholarship because of her love for the music and theatre program at Butler Community College. Ruth was member of Butler’s Life Enrichment group and enjoyed attending all of the vocal, band, and theatre performances.
