The Mary Eva Brown Hamilton Scholarship was established by Captain Rolland M. Hamilton in honor of his treasured wife Mary Eva Brown Hamilton. Rolland and Mary were married in the First United Methodist Church on West Central on December 12, 1945, and their marriage lasted over 53 years until Mary’s death on March 18, 1999. They have five children and eight grandchildren. Rolland grew up in the Whitewater area and graduated from Whitewater High School in 1942. He attend Butler County Community College, and later obtained a Bachelors degree in engineering from Kansas State University. At the same time, he entered the navy, served as an environmental engineer and was promoted to Captain. He earned his MBA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1949. Mary Eva was born in Midian and lived there through grade school and her first two years of high school, moving into El Dorado where she completed her junior and senior high school years and two years of (then) JUCO.
