Lloyd and Theta Greenwell

Lloyd Eugene Greenwell and his wife, Theta (Kimble) Greenwell met in the late 1940’s, while they were in high school. They both had a love for horses and many of their dates included horseback riding.
In 1949, Lloyd graduated from El Dorado High School and in 1951 from El Dorado Junior College. In his spare time, Lloyd enjoyed helping to judge chickens at the Butler County Fair and worked part-time for Haberlein’s Men’s Clothing Store during high school, college, and up until he joined the United States Air Force in 1952. He took Basic and Pilot Training at Goodfellow Air Base in San Angelo, Texas, and later was stationed at McConnel Air Base, Wichita, Kansas – Headquarters Squadron Wing.
Theta attended El Dorado High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. On November 1, 1952, while Lloyd was in the United States Air Force, Lloyd and Theta were married.
In 1955 Lloyd started working at Skelly Oil Co., later to become Texaco, El Dorado, Kansas, and retired in 1993 after 38 years of service.
Theta worked for many years as a secretary at Boeing in the Government Secret Department, taking care of the records for Astronaut Allan Shepard; and, also held positions with Century Plastics and International Petroleum Services in El Dorado, Kansas; but her most cherished position was working along side her husband on the ranch. In 1980, Theta was President of Butler County Cattle Women’s Association.
While being raised at an early age on a ranch, Lloyd fell in love with the “Country Life” and in 1958 he and Theta purchased a small ranch East of El Dorado, where he basically built their home by completely remodeling an old farmhouse. In 1967, Lloyd and Theta, sold their small ranch and purchased a larger ranch, a mile North of their first ranch, where they raised Registered Brangus Cattle and Quarter Horses. Lloyd loved horses and took pride in owning the King Ranch Stallion, “Hired Hand.” Lloyd and Theta showed cattle and horses for many years at the Kansas State Fair and joined the "Heart of America Brangus Association, where Lloyd held the positions of Secretary and President. While President of the organization, he was appointed Superintendent at the American Royal in Kansas City. For 18 years, Lloyd was an inspector for Registry of Brangus Cattle. Lloyd retired from ranching in 2003; but due to his love for horses, he continued breeding and raising horses until 2017, when his health declined.
Lloyd and Theta were active in the community and sponsored many local sport teams, were members of Temple Baptist Church, El Dorado, Kansas, and enjoyed sharing their love for ranching.
Theta passed away on August 6, 2020, and Lloyd passed away on September 7, 2022.
Due to Lloyd and Theta’s love for education and ranching, their family has chosen to establish a Memorial Endowment in their memory for Scholarships for continuing education in the Ag Department at Butler County Community College, El Dorado, Kansas.
