Lance & Pat Hayes

The original donor of the Lance D. Hayes Award for Excellence in the Communications Arts Scholarship wishes to remain anonymous. Due to the generosity of Lance and Pat Hayes the scholarship was endowed in November 2010. Having worked professionally in Radio, Television and Film for a total of 17 years, Lance Hayes also taught those subjects at Wichita State University. Then, in 1996, he was hired to lead Butler’s fledgling program in the same disciplines. He soon put student station KBTL-fm on the air. With that and the school’s TV production facilities, he trained Butler students until his retirement, in 2009. With the positive, student-centered atmosphere of Butler and the subsequent professional success of so many of his graduates, Hayes considers his time at Butler to be the most rewarding work experience of his life.
