Kenneth and Wilma Howell
This scholarship was established in honor of Wilma at the time of her passing. Both Wilma and Kenneth were great supporters of Butler Community College. Wilma started her education at Butler when her youngest son started kindergarten. She completed her associates degree and then transferred on to Wichita State University to complete her degree in accounting. As a certified CPA she worked for a firm in El Dorado but decided to start her own business in Augusta in 1985. Wilma retired in 2002 due to the effects of Parkinson’s Disease. Wilma was active in many organizations within the Augusta Community and beyond. She was elected to the Butler Community College Board of Trustees in 1999 and served this institution for eight years including a term as Board Chair. She coined the infamous phrase “Butler may be the second largest community college in Kansas, but we are first best.”
Ken attended and graduated from Wichita State University in 1965 with a degree in accounting. He started his career at Koch Industries and then later worked for Derby Refining Company until they closed. He later started his own business in real estate in the Butler County and surrounding areas. He is proud to have developed more than 150 rural properties in Butler County.
