John & Rosemary Lay

The John L. & Rosemary Lay Scholarship was established in 1999 by John and Rosemary Lay. John and Rosemary were both teaching overseas when they met. They were married in Toyko, Japan on March 22, 1960. They continued teaching overseas for many years. After their overseas tour they came home to El Dorado where they lived for many years. John taught Human Sexuality at Butler Community College for over 30 years. Rosemary was an accomplished china painter and was involved in many community activities. They were active members of the First United Methodist Church of El Dorado. John was active in Butler’s Life Enrichment group well into his 90’s. Rosemary passed away in February 2005 and John passed away in March 2018.
