John Buck
John Buck, co-owner of Buck’s Department Store in Wichita, had two unfulfilled dreams – to play piano and to learn French. A graduate of Wichita State University in 1947 with a degree in economics, he returned to WSU in 1980 to pursue French lessons. Mr. Buck understood the value of education and the continuing to learn. When Mr. Buck passed away in 2004, he included Butler in his estate to establish the James and Catherine Buck Charitable Trust, which funds four current scholarships honoring his parents in education, fine arts, and business. The pursuit of his dream and his kind generosity will allow others to pursue dreams of their own.
Impact
The James & Catherine Buck Charitable Trust Scholarships are awarded to full-time students studying education, fine arts, or business; have between a 2.5 – 3.5 GPA, and work at least part-time off campus.
