Janice Adams

The Felix E. Adams Jr. Scholarship was established in his memory by his family. Adams was born and raised on a farm near Eureka in Greenwood County, Kansas. He met his wife Janice while attending El Dorado Junior College as he worked toward an associates’ degree from 1959-1961. El Dorado Junior College later became Butler County Community College. Adams was a Kansas educator for more than 50 years, including 44 years teaching and serving in administrative roles at Butler County, before retiring in 2013. Adams taught a number of subjects at Butler, but was best known for teaching general psychology and abnormal psychology, earning him the honorary title “Mr. Psychology” by students. In 2004, Adams was recognized as a Master Teacher and was selected to be that year’s commencement speaker.
In addition to his service to Butler in the classroom, Adams also coached the men’s golf team from 1979-2001 (22 years). During this period, Adams coached 303 tournaments with 93 first-place wins and nine Kansas Jayhawk Team Championships. Adams’ teams made several NJCAA regional and national tournament appearances with six regional first-place wins. Adams thoroughly enjoyed time in the classroom and he drew great pride in being an educator as well as his long association with the students and people of Butler Community College.
